Behold my 3 secret strategies!

Secret Strategy #1- Research

Do a thorough research on the product you wish to list on the auction board, essentials details including, exact name of the product, some overall descriptions, how is the current sales online, and how intensive is the competition. A perhaps a smart and fast way to find out all the details mentioned above is by cunningly and take a peek at your competitor’s advertisements to find out how they describe the product to potential buyers. One thing not to forget to note is the key selling points, the details that attract visitors to buy a product.

Once you got the above mentioned details, let’s be courageous and put yourself into the situation by asking yourself a few vital questions like, "how much am I willing to sell the item for?" A pitfall to be avoided here is to get emotionally tied to the item you are about to sell, and if you find yourself looming in emotion for items you are selling, just convince yourself by saying this, "I’m doing business, this an item for sale at a price". If you wonder why I don’t recommend people to get emotionally attached to the items they are about to put on auctions in that, emotions can alter true value of the item, pushing the price too high up or pulling it too low, either way bad for business.

Since you are not the buyer of a particular item, your personal opinion about how much the item worth is not the issue. I had a great friend who once taught me that "if you think that the item you listed on the auction is what you want, then you might as well buy it from yourself!". A rather hard statement there don’t you think? But it hit me and made me realize what it takes to take a foothold in the business world, she corrected my mindset about the items I sell and really made me start thinking in business terms.

Secret Strategy # 2 – Pictures, pictures, pictures

I can’t stress enough how important this is. You might have heard this from somewhere before that putting good pictures is important and increase the chances of your item being bought. Well, still I think most people don’t really understand what is the fuss, why is it so vital to spend some effort and take high quality pictures of item to be auctioned? Let me list out several reasons that I know of, First you want to give an impressions to potential buyers that, you are professional, because with this image of "professional" buyers tend to view you as "trusted seller", and plus, who is going to buy something that looks like junk you picked up from the trash? Not too long ago I had a rather bad camera, pictures it took weren’t that great, but I applied this one little trick that made the pictures look "professional". I tried putting 2 lights on each side of the item, an amateur improvisation of professional studio lighting, in this way your picture lighting will be well balanced. To make the picture more eye catching I even used plain backdrop, mostly black or white depending on the color of the item. What give the distinct "professional" look to the item is that, the picture as a whole contains no distractions, the focus is on the item and colors look more vibrant, features that are definitely eye catching. If you have some digital photo editing skill, then I recommend you to apply it, it doesn’t have to complex, simple editing and cropping your will do. If you don’t know which software to use, just go on to Google and type "free online photo editors" and you can download free software to edit your photos.

Strategy # 3 – Smart bidding

From your research, if you have the feeling that your item is going to get a lot of bids, then you may start put a lower starting price. One good thing about lower starting price is that, it attracts people! To be a step ahead of your competitors, the lower the starting price you can offer, the more likely you can attract bidders. Remember, the key of success here is how you create bidding wars. Because if you can somehow attract several bidders to "want" to item, then they are going to continuously pursuing the item, put a price tag on top of another, making the price of your item shoots up sky high.

One key point to remember, do not let the price of the item over shoot too much, because the higher the price the bigger the risk your item your item is not going to be sold. When the price tag reached certain limit, people will stop bidding and move on to your competitors who offered lower price. Auctioning is all about getting a deal isn’t it? At the best price that the seller and buyer can agree. Imagine that you are the buyer for a while, don't you want to get the best deal? Is all about striking the point where most reasonable price for the most reasonable quality of an item.

Last but not least, be honest! As the moral principle that holds, treat others the way you want to be treated. You may have one or two failure along the way, understandable pretty bad experience, but it not an excuse to justify any act of dishonesty. Remember what I said earlier, to be successful you need to go through trial and error, which is a learning process, there are no way around that in order to be truly success in your Auctioning business. Just like what I did, I hope you can swallow a bit of bitterness and learn from negative experiences and cherish the positive ones.
